We caught up with Toni to discuss her dynamic path in the beauty world, the special role blush plays in her life, and her secrets to maintaining that iconic radiant look.

When did your fascination with beauty first ignite?

Beauty has always been in my blood. My mom was a total enthusiast, obsessed with lipsticks and fragrances. As a child growing up with my fraternal twin sister, we'd rummage through her wardrobe, trying on outfits and dabbling with her cosmetics. My sister and I share many similarities, yet we're quite distinct—she's pursuing medicine as a student, leading us to very different lifestyles. Back then, we'd explore beauty as a team, but it resonated more deeply with me.

It all kicked off innocently in my early years, and as I matured, the explosion of beauty influencers on YouTube around 2015 and 2016 fueled my deep dive into the world. I'd hit up the local pharmacy, grab whatever caught my eye, and play with elaborate makeup styles—just for the sheer joy of it! I took a brief hiatus when burnout set in, but roughly two years back, I rediscovered my love for beauty. It's been a rollercoaster relationship, full of ups and downs, but ultimately rewarding.

How has witnessing your online presence and fanbase expand so rapidly impacted you?

The growth has been lightning-fast, yet entirely authentic. I never set out to become a full-time content maker; it unfolded organically, which is why it's felt exhilarating rather than daunting. This natural flow has kept things manageable, and I'm thrilled about the future expansion of my community. I'm deeply thankful for my digital family.

For me, beauty has been an intermittent affair, but one that's ultimately enriching.

In what ways has your relationship with beauty transformed through the years?

On my Substack, I've delved extensively into how being immersed in beauty compels you to scrutinize your own views on attractiveness. You're perpetually in front of the camera, testing products, which forces self-examination. Fortunately, I grew up surrounded by family members who resemble me, providing a solid, unchanging foundation for my beauty ideals. Without that stability, things might have been shakier. Lately, it's shifted toward ensuring my inner life matches the polished exterior I present.

And this is the part most people miss: Working in beauty makes it all too simple to border on obsession with your appearance and public persona. This can lead to unhealthy thought patterns or unrealistic expectations. While I film tutorials showcasing products and expressing how gorgeous I feel, I strive to ensure that confidence extends beyond those videos.

Blush is such an integral element of your style that you've earned the nickname 'The Blush Queen' and even collaborated with Tower 28. What makes this product so significant to you?

Blush once intimidated me more than any other colored cosmetic—it felt daunting. I pushed myself to experiment with it to build comfort, and gradually, I fell for it. Over time, I uncovered the myriad narratives blush can convey via its shades, tones, and application amounts, allowing for endless variations. Short-form videos have amplified this, as blush delivers instant, striking transformations. That's the magic that won me over.

How do you decide on your blush shade for the day?

It's all about my current vibe. I approach blush like fashion choices—what outfit I'm in, my emotional state, and what features I want to accentuate. With my extensive collection, selecting one daily has become second nature.

Do you venture beyond the cheeks when applying blush?

Absolutely. I adore layering it over bronzer, sweeping it across my eyelids, or even dotting it on my forehead for a unified, monochromatic effect. Some apply it to the lips too. Blush knows no boundaries, and I relish the freedom to innovate.

When do you experience the pinnacle of feeling beautiful?

Honestly, it hits me in a couple of key moments. First, during quiet, reflective times at home, away from the camera—pure stillness fosters that sense. Second, in the act of creation, when I review a video or post I've produced, as it mirrors my thoughts and creative process.

Over time, I've come to appreciate the countless tales blush can weave through its colors. By varying the shade, tone, and quantity, you can craft a fresh appearance each time.

What's your standard makeup routine, and how do you adapt it from daytime to evening?

Daytime for me leans toward subtle glamour. I've discovered that building layers is crucial—it yields a more authentic result and simplifies enhancements. For evenings, I amp it up with extra powder, like a pressed version under the eyes. I'll pile on more blush, perhaps mixing cream and powder formulas. Mascara gets a boost, and sometimes a soft, smudged eyeliner. Lips take center stage with a liner and gloss for that seamless transition.

Speaking of lips—what's your favorite combination?

I'm a big fan of lip stains for their staying power. Currently, the Huda Beauty Lip Stain is my go-to. Pairing it with Fenty Beauty's Gloss Bomb gives you vibrant color plus shimmer. To finish, I add something moisturizing, like Rhode's lip line or Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm. Together, they create a flawless blend.

Your signature radiance is a hallmark of your aesthetic. What advice do you have for achieving that glow?

Glow begins with solid skincare—prioritize moisture and repair. Without a healthy base, radiance won't shine through. Toners play a vital role in my regimen; I use them consistently. In makeup, it's about equilibrium: balancing creams, liquids, and powders. Overdo the creams, and they might slip; too much powder flattens the look. Striking the perfect balance naturally brings out the glow.

I used to overload on shiny primers, but I learned that can be excessive. Now, I opt for a gentle matte primer and introduce glow via creams.

Which skincare items are currently stealing your heart?

The Rhode Barrier Restore Cream is a standout favorite—it's truly wonderful. I'm also enamored with LAMD's recovery series for its effectiveness. The Ordinary offers fantastic, budget-friendly options. And toners? They're indispensable in my routine.

If your makeup bag could speak, what tales would it tell about you?

It would highlight my passion for color—blush is always abundant. It might also reveal my adaptable nature, unafraid of shifts and changes.

Toni Bravo's Tower28 GetSet Matte Powder Blush shades are available now.

What do you think—does the beauty industry's emphasis on perfection foster genuine self-love, or does it plant seeds of insecurity? And here's a controversial twist: Could influencers like Toni be inadvertently setting unrealistic standards while promoting fun experimentation? Share your opinions in the comments—do you agree, disagree, or have a different take?
